This is a 4 stroke 119cc engine. I have spent over a year carefully restoring the mower following a complete strip down including every last nut and bolt. I wanted the mower restored to as near perfect mechanical condition as possible, while keeping as much of it as’original’ as possible. Any rounded or damaged nuts and bolts have been replaced, however a lot of original fixings remain in good condition. Some of the work undertaken includes. Engine valves cleaned and refaced, clearances set to spec. Head decoked, cleaned/flattened and new head gasket fitted. New NGK BP5ES spark plug, new HT Lead and suppressor cap, ignition timing set up and contact breaker points removed, cleaned and set. Recoil starter complete strip and rebuild including new starter cup, pawl mechanisms and rope. Full carb strip and rebuild after ultrasonic cleaning, new gaskets and felts, and choke cleaned and action setup. New gauze filter fitted. Original Ewarts brass fuel tap cleaned out and new cork and fibre washer fitted. Cutting cylinder ground and painted. Bottom Blade ground and painted including new fixing screws. Several new RL5 bearings throughout including the cutting cylinder bearings and felts. Rear roller complete strip down, cleaned and inspected. All 6 internal pawls checked and cleaned and moving freely. The roller is perfectly free and has the correct differential action, with each half able to turn independently, making it easy to turn and manoeuvre the mower on the lawn. One of the roller halves has had 2 hairline cracks weld repaired. As many of the original lubricator points as possible kept, but any damaged ones have been replaced. New front wooden rollers and new roller spindle. Clutch fully dismantled and any damaged or missing friction pads replaced. New custom made to spec brass top hat bush inside clutch. New cutting cylinder drive chain, rear roller chain thoroughly cleaned checked and re-lubed. I’m sure I’ve missed things but hopefully this gives you an idea of the extent of the rebuild. The mower is currently set to the highest cut height which is around 30mm. I have left the paintwork on the chassis untouched, other than giving it all a good clean up. I prefer a working mower of this age (around 1960 ish) to show a few battle scars and usage marks, as long as it looks presentable and is structurally sound. No doubt parts have had a lick of paint here and there over the years, but the original green can still be found in many places. Overall it looks tidy. I’ve restored a mower before and had the paintwork all done to make it look brand new, however I find you end up worrying about scratching it and it getting marked if you are actually going to use it for its intended purpose! Different if you are keeping it for show or display though. All working as it should and leaves lovely stripes on the lawn due to the heavy cast iron rollers. All the lubrication points have been lubricated with SAE30 oil and any nuts and bolts that would benefit, to ease future servicing, have had anti seize applied. The only’negative’ thing to mention is that after a minute or so after a cold start, there is some oil smoke from the exhaust, but this only lasts for around a minute, and maintaining higher revs for a while seems to help clear it. After this, the engine no longer smokes, and subsequent warms starts do not smoke, so it only happens when cold and doesn’t last long. Considering the age of the engine it’s not that bad, and I suspect either new piston rings or valve stems would eliminate this if this bothers you enough. You will need a suitable pump action oil gun which fits the lubricators around the chassis for general maintenance. Original grass box is Included and is in good overall condition. Again, it shows signs of age/use with various dents, but it’s solid and still looks tidy enough. If you want any specific pictures just send a message as I’ve taken hundreds during the rebuild. The mower is quite heavy so advise 2 people to collect it, although I may be able to assist. This item is in the category “Garden & Patio\Lawn Mowers, Parts & Accessories\Lawn Mowers”.
